Global Warming Strikes Back

There was a link on Drudge’s site today to a story on Global Warming from the Times UK. The twist to this story is that now Global Warming is striking Mars. According to the Times, “Scientists from Nasa (sic) say that Mars has warmed by about 0.5C since the 1970’s. This is similar to the warming experienced on Earth over approximately the same period.”

The Times does go on to say that the mechanism appears to be different on Mars than on Earth. This would almost go without saying. If similar global climate change was occurring on other planets inside the solar system the Global Warming Consensus Industry would have a lot to explain. The last I checked, we have not colonized Mars, so any climate change on Mars would have nothing to do with man.

Some scientists have theorized other reasons for the Earth’s current climate than man’s activity. There have been no accurate models put forth by the “man-made global warming” side that work for any previous data to predict today’s climate. Any other scientific field would be forced to prove their model works. If the global warming models are accurate, we should be able to input data from the 1900’s, 1920’s, or even 1870’s and predict today’s climate patterns. However that is not the case. There are no models that even predict today’s climate with data from the 1970’s. Perhaps the climate scientists haven’t been looking in the right place for their theories.

The problem with the current discussion on global warming is that it has become more religion than science. We are asked to accept many leaps of faith without the science to back them up. Much like a collection of church elders, the consensus scientists have decided which theories fit their preconceived notions of global warming. The elders of the religion have even set up a system for the rich church goers to buy their forgiveness through carbon credits. While the actual science behind the carbon credits is as questionable as the religion, few of the faithful question its validity.

Until the media, the Democratic Party, and the European Union allow an actual scientific debate on the issue, man-made Global Warming will continue to look more like religion and less and less like science.

I saw the link to this story from Drudge’s site. In case you don’t believe me when I claim “Man-made Global Warming” is a religion, I will quote the first two sentences from this article:

Visitors to the Gaia Napa Valley Hotel and Spa won't find the Gideon Bible in the nightstand drawer. Instead, on the bureau will be a copy of ``An Inconvenient Truth,'' former Vice President Al Gore's book about global warming.

I saw a special on Mt. Saint Helens the other day. Between the 1980 eruption and 2005, it was dormant. During that time, a glacier formed in the mouth of the volcano. According to Discovery Channel special, it was the fastest GROWING glacier on the planet. It has since changed since the volcano is erupting again. Wouldn't a GROWING glacier kind of fly in the face of global warming?

So if a hotel chain decided to put copies of Time Magazine in rooms instead of the Bible, then we'd have to say that current events are a religion?

With the lack of quality that TIME magazine has shown lately, I would say that is the only reason someone would put a TIME magazine in a hotel room. If we were also debating taxing people and legislating that you believe the TIME magazine, then sure, it could be a religion too.

I appreciate you viewpoint. I posted something related to that on my own blog. If more of us speak up about this, maybe we can muffle some of the noise made by pseudo-scientists and "Thinkers" (as Time called them) like Al Gore. I'm glad I found your blog.

Thanks for the compliment and I hope you keep coming back.

Just a few examples of the "pseudo-scientists" that are part of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Whi have said that global warming is very likely caused by human activity.

You'd like to muffle them?

Is that the answer? Muffle the scientists you don't agree with?

Susan Solomon - After graduating from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago she went to graduate school at the University of California at Berkeley. She was awarded the 1999 National Medal of Science, the highest scientific award bestowed by the United States government.

Qin Dahe - Former Director of the China Meteorological Administration.
Qin is a glaciologist and the first Chinese ever to cross the South Pole. He was a member of the 1989 International Cross South Pole Expedition and has published numerous ground-breaking articles, using evidence gathered from his Antarctic expeditions. His work, which concentrated on the differences between the southeastern and southwestern parts of the Antarctic ice surface, reveals that the hydrogen isotope content in the southwestern area is 40% higher than that in the southeast. Qin has been praised as one of China's most outstanding scientists.

Jean Jouzel - French glaciologist and climatologist. He is a world renowned specialist in major climatic shifts based on his analysis of Antarctic and Greenland ice.

Filippo Giorgi - Ph. D., School of Geophysical Sciences, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia. After obtaining a Ph.D. in June 1986, he was granted a post-doctoral appointment at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. Giorgi pioneered the field of regional climate modeling and contributed to the development of the first regional climate model. Over the years this model has become a community tool used by over 200 scientists. He authored or co-authored over 100 articles in peer reviewed scientific journals on a variety of topics pertaining to climate modeling, climate change and variability, chemistry-climate interactions, biosphere-atmosphere interactions. These articles have received over 3500 citations since 1989. In addition he has authored or co-authored about 20 additional peer reviewed book chapters and reports.

Dr David Wratt - Principal Scientist with National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research in New Zealand.

I don’t want to muffle any of them. My concern is that those scientist who oppose the views of the IPCC are getting muffled. I believe both sides should be allowed to debate the position they believe in. Maybe that will spark the mind of someone and allow them to prove or disprove man-made global warming once and for all.

I found this link on Drudge...Al Gore makes my argument for me:

"It's in part a spiritual crisis," Gore told the crowd in the Convention Center at the American Institute of Architects national convention. "It's a crisis of our own self-definition — who we are. Are we creatures destined to destroy our own species? Clearly not."
