Who cares if it isn't in the Constitution??

I found the following clip at the Heritage Foundation. This is a Democratic Senator from Hawaii being interviewed by CNS News. It's a rare instance where a politician gives an honest answer to a simple question, and it really should scare the hell out of everyone.

If the Constitution doesn't give Congress the power to do it, then they can't do it! The scariest part is were Senator Akaka says they should do this without Constitutional authority because they want,"...to help citizens in our country to live a good life."

If this doesn't scare you, then you don't understand what he just said. If you're a liberal or a Democrat, imagine a Congress with an overwhelming majority of conservative Christians passing legislation that has no Constitutional authority, but they want to do it so that the citizens live a good life. Would you tolerate that?

I get and understand what you are saying here Andy but I do have to ask one thing. How do you feel about the requirement to have auto insurance to drive a car?

I guess it is different because you don't have to drive. And because driving is a privilege not a right.

Ha, you answered your question for me. If you don't want to buy auto insurance, don't drive a car. Auto Insurance and Health Insurance aren't quite the same thing, and the analogy doesn't work.

Andy, it's even worse than you think.

I heard on Glenn Beck that Federal Law ALREADY forces people on airplanes to get shackled in restraints called seatbelts. And--I've double checked--there isn't ONE WORD about airplanes in the constitution. This is fascism plain and simple.

And Sean Hannity reported that big companies are FORCED by the federal government to pay a MINIMUM WAGE to their workers. There's nothing about a MINIMUM WAGE in the CONSTITUTION!

You're right, this is scaring the hell out of me: seatbelts, minimum wage, health insurance.

Next thing you know, they'll be trying to keep lead out of gasoline and childrens' toys--and I haven't read about those things in the constitution!

Keep up the good fight, Andy! We've got a lot of federal laws to defeat.

So Anonymous you are ok with this? And you would be ok with a Republican congress passing laws it didn't have the power to pass to give you a better quality of life?

Can I re-phrase your question Andy? Are you NOT OK with ANYONE (let's leave the parties out of this and focus on the question)offering up legislation, and passing a law that would improve your quality of life?

In other words, are you saying that you are for people NOT offering up said legislation in order to keep our quality of life at a lower level, overall?

Also, have you been "holding it" all these years? Because, I didn't see a clause in the constitution that says you can go to the bathroom. :)
