More and More impressed with Michele Bachman

I am on vacation this week with my family, so I haven't been following politics as closely as I normally would. However I found this video clip at Freedom Works. The clip is a little less than 6 minutes, but I think it is very important to watch.

Two quick points. First, the more and more I hear from Rep. Bachmann, the more and more I am impressed with her. At the very end of the clip, you will her Barney Frank call her down. The more and more I hear from Barney Frank the more I wonder why he has a job. If the CEO of GM and other companies can be fired because of their actions at private companies, why can't Mr. Frank be removed from office for his part in getting us into the current mess?

Thanks for this Andy.

I was just wondering who in the world would take Bachmann seriously. Now I know.

Bachmann is Sarah Palin on LSD.

She says that the volunteer program Americorps is a compulsory brainwashing re-education program.

If this is who y'all are going to put forward as leaders, I look forward to many happy years in the majority.

Prediction: Bachmann is going to say some even more outrageous things soon, and she'll flame out worse than Sarah Palin.

I have some real concerns when the government mandates volunteering. As Michelle Malkin points out:

Especially troublesome to parents’ groups concerned about compulsory volunteerism requirements is a provision in the House version, directing Congress to explore “whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.”

Those who have watched AmeriCorps from its inception are all-too-familiar with how government voluntarism programs have been used for propaganda and political purposes. AmeriCorps “volunteers” have been put to work lobbying against the voter-approved three-strikes anti-crime initiative in California and protesting Republican political events while working for the already heavily-tax-subsidized liberal advocacy group ACORN.

Anytime the government is more involved in things like this, we are in dangerous waters. There is no provision of the Constitution that instructs the government to mandate volunteering. In a bad economy, this is one program that should be cut, not expanded.

Ah, no.

There was a version of the bill that talked about *investigating* the possibility of mandatory service (i.e. the *idea* of a "draft" for young people to serve their country either in the military or in some other capacity, similar to current programs in Austria, Greece, Singapore, Brazil, Israel, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Taiwan, Poland, Turkey, Finland, Germany, etc.). That version, however, was not approved by the house.

In short, you are on a bridge to nowhere: the bill the house passed--the "house version"--has no language whatsoever about mandatory service.

Read about it at the non-partisan fact check website.

In short, I think a draft to serve in the military or community service in this country is a bad idea. If other countries want to do it, fine, but I think it shouldn't be mandatory here. It's the same concept as welfare. If you give to charity, that's charity. If you steal from me to give to charity, that's still theft.

I predicted it. More ignorant nuttiness from Bachmann.

Impressive, eh?

This isn't her big flame-out yet. But it's coming.
