Bill Russell for Congress!

I am a Conservative.

I believe in the sovereignty and security of this one nation, under God. I believe the primary role of government is to provide for the common defense and a legal framework to protect families and individual liberty. I believe in rugged individualism because individuals can make far better choices than any government entity in providing for families, protecting households, choosing doctors and health care plans, and deciding which teachers and schools are best for children. I believe prosperity is best ensured by what Adam Smith called the "invisible hand" of a natural, price driven economy.

-- Lt. Colonel William Russell

Wow. These are the words I am dying to hear a Republican presidential candidate say. I would also love to hear them coming from a Republican running to represent me. In this case, they come from Lt. Colonel William "Bill" Russell, who is running for the Pennsylvania 12th Congressional District. You may ask, "Who is the current Representative from the 12th District, Pennsylvania?" That would be John Murtha. If you follow politics, and know who Murtha is, you are probably thinking that Lt. Colonel Russell doesn't stand a chance. Let me give you a few facts Michelle Malkin reported on today:

  • The Second Quarter reports brought some troubling news for Rep. Murtha: Russell outraised him 6 to 1. By the way, active duty military personnel (such as Lt. Colonel Russell) are not allowed to actively campaign until they complete their military service

  • A judge ruled in February that Russell had failed to collect enough signatures to get on the primary ballot. However, more than 4,000 write in votes later, Russell's name is now on the general election ballot.

  • On the morning of September 11, 2001, Russell and his pregnant wife were working at the Pentagon. They both escaped unharmed.

  • Lt. Colonel Russell has served for 28 years in Active and Reserve service. This includes six tours in hostile fire zones. He is a veteran of both Iraq wars.

Went I went to the William Russell for Congress website, I kept finding more and more reasons to support the Lt. Colonel over John Murtha. Murtha is as corrupt as they come, and even some Democrats are tired of him. During the write in campaign, Russell had to get 1000 votes to get on the ballot. He got 4,000. He also got an additional 1,000 Democratic write in votes!

I don't ask my readers to contribute to a political campaign very often. Michelle Malkin points out that the bulk of his donations during the 6:1 route of Murtha were $50 or less. If you are thinking of contributing to a campaign this year, this is the one. Lt. Colonel Russell can't actively campaign until September 1st, so anything you can spare ($5, $15, $20 or more) would help him out, and may put a corrupt politician out of a job.

What Murtha’s Challenger Doesn’t Want You to Know

More than 85 percent of the money raised by the Russell campaign has come from out of the 12th Congressional District.

Russell violated military law when he appeared on the Michael Savage Nation, a political talk show, on May 14 while on active duty.

In his commencement address at the Naval Academy in April, Admiral Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said, "If you are in the U.S. military, stay out of politics.

And as a result of a complaint filed on June 11, 2008,(Case No. MUR 6024) with the Federal Election Commission, Russell is now disclosing receipts, disbursments and banking activtites not previously disclosed. The Russell campaign committed clear and egregious violations of Federal election laws.

Russell may have gotten his wish when he got enough write-in votes to make the November ballot, but breaking the law will be his worst nightmare.

Given that Russell can’t even manage and properly account for the money he’s raising for his campaign, the 12th Congressional has zero reason to trust him to provide oversight over the federal budget.

This case illustrates the knowing and willful violations of campaign finance laws. The Russell campaign has brazingly sought to run an off-the-books campaign.

So....

Sounds like he'll fit right in. Its all about CHANGE!

So what you are saying is the people of the 12th district will have to choose between a person who breaks the rules and a person who breaks the rules. Damn glad I don't have to make that decision...

Sorry about the delayed response Anon, but I have been trying to research your complaints and can't find any information on them. If you have a link that discusses the FEC complaint, I would love to see it.

I have no problem with the money for Russell campaign coming from outside his district. Look at the fund raising activities of the Clintons. The Democrats have never cared that money was coming from outside of the country for the Clintons.

As I said, you site a complaint (not a verdict of wrong doing), I am still looking into that, but can't find any details. I am curious; did the complaint outline something as "egregious" as the Abscam scandal Murtha was involved in? Murtha was caught on tape discussing the details of a $50,000 bribe. He didn’t take it because he wanted to do more business with the undercover FBI agents before he took a bribe from them.

You may be correct, Russell may have violated campaign finance law, but John Murtha has shown himself to have some serious criminal tendencies and very poor judgment. Russell will still be an improvement for Pennsylvania.

I urge conservatives across the nation to empty their wallets for William T. Russell! Russell is an outstanding candidate but it takes a lot of dough to run a campaign these days.

For every hard-earned dollar you give to the Russell campaign, BMW Direct will let the campaign keep a nickel. Is that a great deal or what?

(Short on funds these days? Not a problem - BMW Direct is happy to take credit cards.)

Do what you can do to help the powerless citizenry in Murtha's district free themselves from the burden of spending the mountain of cash that Murtha brings into the district every year.

Michele Malkin supports William Russell and so should you.

Give, give give until it hurts!

I am usually a little cautious about posting comments like the one above this one. However, there are no links in it, and I wanted everyone to see just how worried the Democrats are starting to get about Bill Russell. Keep your eye on this fight leading up to November. Russell is a very strong candidate, and Murtha is pretty weak right now.

I am still waiting for Anonymous to post some details substantiating his / her attacks on Russell...

I love it when extreme conservatives grasp tightly to moral relativism - my guy might be bad but your guy is worse. LOL Now before anyone marches off to donate to BMW you may want to check what amount winds up in the candidates coffers after paying them,

Anonymous, are you Lawrence Stiles, aka Larry Stiles, aka John Foresman? I don't know if you are, but you seem to be placing the same quotes on any site that is discussing Bill Russell. I would encourage my readers to check out this site and see if they believe the comments posted here and on the "Meanwhile in Hershey" site are the same.

Also check out the link for a pretty good response to the allegations made by Anon on here.

It's so exciting to see the growing crew of supporters. Thanks for the comments and I'll try and remember to comment right back here as exceptionally interesting news unfolds.

Is it true that Russell has not disclosed all of his campaigns receipts and expenditures. And that the Federal Elections Commission and the Army is investigating his political activities.

Andy D said...

Chesty,

The investigations the FEC and Army are looking at are centered around whether or not he was actively campaigning while still on active duty. I have looked and looked and don’t see any real allegations that he has done anything inappropriate with the campaigns money.
